BSC Model

'BSC' refers to battery, solar, fuel cell.  This product is a further evolution of the BS battery, solar module and offers an alternative power source within our cabins.

This hybrid power solution has the ability to generate the required energy to recharge an on-board battery bank. This is achieved through solar panels on the cabin roof and by a fuel cell housed within the power module. Alternatively, a back-up 13 amp socket allows recharge from the mains.

As with the 'B' and 'BS' models, hot water and heating is provided by a diesel heating system with particularly low, E1 rated, emissions.

Basic Operation

Basic Operation

The power source is obtained from deep cycle gel batteries which are recharged by the following:

  • - Solar panels
  • - Fuel cell
      or
  • - Mains Power

This unique system guarantees an extended working day of the cabin ensuring that in poor weather conditions or in tree lined avenues, where solar contribution is minimal, the fuel cell automatically senses a drop in voltage and recharges the batteries.

Methanol

Power modules within the BSC series are supplied with 2 cartridges of methanol which are simply unscrewed and reset.  Once the cartridge runs low an LED is activated and displayed inside the cabin.  Methanol is available from your ELSTONS hire/distribution company.

               Control Panel    fuel cell

Methanol is a class 3 chemical - as is ethyl alcohol or mentholated spirits.  The methanol is contained within a sealed cartridge in which no spillage can occur.  The cartridges are tested on a regular basis and are specially designed to prevent contact with the methanol.  The fuel cartridges are certified by TUEV on safety regulations.  They can be replace easily and effectively during operations within seconds with no harm (compared to hydrogen, it is easier and safer to store and handle).

TUEV safety seal Every fuel cartridge carries the TUEV safety seal .  The cartridges have always been subject to the most stringent safety standards. The containers consist of highly impact-resistant plastic. Containers are subjected to numerous drop and shock tests and have continuously demonstrated a high level of security in these tests.

The fuel cartridges are equipped with a safety valve to prevent leakage. The valve will only open if the fuel cartridge is connected to the fuel cell. If the fuel cartridge is removed, the safety valve will hermetically seal ensuring that the user never comes into contact with methanol. This method of fueling is far safer, cleaner and more convenient than gasoline-powered generators.
